New Hire Toolkit
Congratulations and welcome to South Texas College! Our institution is committed to providing a safe, supporting, and welcoming environment for all new faculty/staff hires. The below resources serve as a guide as new hires prepare to learn about their new jobs and become more familiar with their department and organization. Supervisors may also reference best practices for onboarding in our Supervisor toolkit.
Before Your Orientation
Please make sure to complete all the required documents.
Orientation
Please report to the Office of Human Resources (2501 W. Pecan Blvd., McAllen, TX 78501). Orientation will run from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Human Resources staff will be there to assist you complete your new hire paperwork. Please bring:
- Your Social Security card for payroll purposes.
- Original and acceptable documentation that verifies identity and employment authorization for Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) purposes. You may visit the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website at https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/acceptable-documents for a list of acceptable documents for the Form I-9.
- South Texas College uses E-Verify to confirm the employment eligibility of all newly hired employees. To learn more about E-Verify, including your rights and responsibilities, please visit www.uscis.gov/e-verify.
- Benefits/Insurance Coverage - Social security numbers, birthdates and addresses for yourself and dependents and/or for anyone you wish to designate as beneficiaries or add to your insurance. You will also be asked to provide the name of your selected Primary Care Physician for yourself and/or dependents.
Our benefits are administered by The Employee Retirement System of Texas (ERS) and our health insurance carrier is BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS). To view more information regarding our benefits you may review our benefits information at Benefits and Advantages.
- Parking Permit - Vehicle information (license plate number, year, make and model) will be needed to obtain a temporary parking permit at the South Texas College Department of Public Safety.
