Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is a civil rights law aimed at preventing discrimination against individuals with disabilities. The ADA’s purpose is to eliminate obstacles that hinder qualified individuals with disabilities from accessing the same opportunities as those without disabilities.
A reasonable accommodation under the ADA is any change or adaptation in a job, employment practice, or workplace environment that enables a qualified individual with a disability to have an equal opportunity in employment. South Texas College is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for known disabilities of qualified employees unless it poses an undue hardship to the college.
How to request an accommodation:
- Contact the Office of Human Resources if you feel you need an accommodation to perform your job duties.
- Complete the ADA Request Form and the ADA Medical Certification.
- Once submitted, a human resources representative will begin the interactive process to find the best solution or necessary accommodation to assist you in performing your essential job duties.
